As of summer 2020, Ciaran Flaherty has acted as a consultant for the London Union Society. He advises the corporate team on efficiency and growth strategies.
Ciaran studied economics at the University of Cambridge, writing a dissertation focussed on educational expenditure inequality in the US. During his time at university, Ciaran worked with two young firms to launch and develop their brands on campus. After graduation, he stepped into a role in FTSE 250 firm's corporate venture capital division, providing an insight into start-up growth from the investor standpoint while also developing valuable skills. From here, Ciaran joined a fintech scale-up in the forex space, focussing on developing their efficiency and global broker network. He is currently studying the PGDL (Law) at BPP Cambridge.
Ciaran joined the LUS to focus on growing the society and our innovative ed-tech platform. Having seen the benefit that crucial skills like debating and public speaking can bring when applied to the professional world, he is enthusiastic to democratise access to development opportunities. He believes that the LUS offers an excellent platform to achieve this.
Outside of studies and the London Union Society, he has competed at national competitions in athletics and hockey and now spends much of his time training for and competing in triathlon. Ciaran believes strongly in the benefits that participation in high-level sports can bring to corporate settings, and is always keen to promote and discuss these with whoever will listen!
