Marta Delfino is an upcoming BSc (Hons) graduate reading Biomedical Science with Genomics at St George's, University of London. Marta is Italian, but grew up in Shanghai, China. After graduating high school, she moved to London for her studies, and has also conducted research in a biochemistry and molecular biomedicine research lab at the University of Barcelona. For her BSc medical microbiology and bioinformatics research project, she studied the global variation and antimicrobial resistance determinants of Mycobacterium chimaera. She is keen to further her studies in bioinformatics and computational biology.
Marta is passionate about improving the university experience for all students. At her university, she founded the UK's first student Think Tank specialised in science and healthcare. She is keen to raise awareness about how scientific research can influence policy, and that can ultimately affect healthcare. Marta is also the Environment and Ethics Officer of her Students' Union and the university's Environmental Working Group. She is passionate about environmental issues and planetary health. In particular, how the environment affects a person's health. When she's not in the research lab or studying, she likes to keep active with any sport (currently training for her first marathon), catching up on Italian literature, and learning a new song on the ukulele.
Motivated and enthusiastic in all aspects of her life, Marta is excited to be the Publicity Affairs Associate. The London Union Society is the perfect place for students to network and become well rounded individuals. She looks forward to being an advocate for the London Union Society, and meeting all the new members
